Hi, I’m Lauren Walega.
I’m a former public school teacher (I taught K-8 Instrumental Music in Detroit) and have decided to pursue another passion of mine: Alternative Interior Design. My goals in Education hold true in Interior Design: Make it accessible; make it for everyone.
With a focus on buying second-hand, DIY updates to existing furniture, and recycling as much material as possible, I’m committed to a more sustainable and budget friendly renovation process that is accessible to normal people, like you!
Interior Design is often seen as a luxury, something that would be great “if only I had the time” and “if only I had the money”. My goal with Kick Ass Designs is to lower that ceiling. Because you deserve to live in a home that sparks joy each time you walk in the room, not whatever “landlord special” or “flipper gray” that was there when you moved in.
MY PROCESS
It all starts with you.
You might have some great ideas, but no idea where to start. Maybe you’ve picked some awesome decor pieces, but don’t know how to style it. Or maybe colors and decor just aren’t your thing, but you still want a beautiful and functional space.
I’m here to help.
Preparation
This is when I take the reigns. I’ll begin searching for second-hand pieces that will suit your style perfectly and start the DIY projects needed to make the space work for you.
Transformation
Now it’s time for paint, furniture, decor, and all of those beautiful final touches to make your space feel like home. Watch the magic unfold as your space is transformed.
Design
Once we’re on the same page with the style, I’ll design a mock layout with the measurements of your space and any existing furniture you want to keep.
Inspiration
During our consultation, we’ll go over colors you love, inspo pics, functional needs, and your style. I’ll create a visual moodboard to bring your ideas to life.
